Wendy Barratt
Expert tutor
Best known for her emotive portraits in oil, Wendy takes inspiration both from people encountered in real life and through found images, led by the shapes and connections she sees in her subjects as well as the emotion, expression and human connection between artist and sitter.
Her fascination with representing the human extends into the life room, where a love of expressing form becomes an experiment in mostly dry media.
With Wendy’s works having been exhibited by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters (Mall Galleries), as well as being in private collections all over the world, she has now established herself with significant notoriety by winning the 10th series of Portrait Artist of the Year. Her exquisitely multi-faceted commissioned portrait of Dr Jane Goodall now hanging in the National Portrait Gallery.
Since studying Graphics in Manchester in the early 80s, alongside Wendy’s 30 something year career as a designer, she has been teaching drawing and painting since 1997, in Montpellier, at Evolution Arts, Draw Brighton and Pallant House Gallery in Chichester as well as having set up the Drawing room in Worthing. We are fortunate that Wendy enjoys painting our granite coastline, and is willing to put time aside to share her expertise with us.
