Tim Hall RSMA

Expert tutor

Born into a family of artists (one of whom became president of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters), Tim followed in his family’s footsteps, studying a BA in Fine Art at Kingston Art College .

After graduating, Tim went on to work in the art department of Shepperton and Pinewood film studios, however, he maintained his own painting practice and took on some prestigious public and private portrait commissions, notably a monumental piece for Products HQ, actors John Nettles, Peter Farrell and Brian Burden and business tycoon Gary Blackburn with family.

As Tim’s own painting practice gained success he moved into teaching, firstly in Esher, and for the last 20 or so years from his studio in Cornwall, where his own practice now primarily focuses on portraiture and landscape.

Tim has been a regular exhibitor at the Mall Galleries since 1999, exhibiting with the Royal Institute of Portrait Painters, The Royal Society of Marine Painters, and The Federation of British Artists, and The New English Art Club, winning a number of awards.

His Portrait ‘Henrietta and Ollie’ was shortlisted for the BP National Portrait Award in 2014, and his portrait of the now late Ken Howard was exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Show 2018.
