Kate Broad

Expert tutor

Kate is a Cornwall based Artist, Educator and Researcher in drawing practice. She is currently Associate Lecturer in Drawing at Falmouth University across several applied and fine art pathways. She is devisor and facilitator of Lifedrawlife, providing life drawing sessions across East Cornwall, and Materialimmaterial- immersive creative events and residencies.

Kate has a fascination with landscapes in the broadest sense. The works she produces represent a contemporary allegory about our relationship with surface, inanimate object and environment.

She documents space, both internal and external, that lead to a fragmented topography. The premise being that the image is both specific and generic, an ambiguous state of space. Rather than romantic visionary landscape she sees the results as emotive geographical images full of tectonic, seismic conversations.

Recent projects include a DYCP Arts Council grant and subsequent residencies at Drawinternational France, Studio Residency at Karst Gallery, and a 3 month Artist in Residence at Tehidy Park, Cornwall in conjunction with Krowji, Cornwall Council, Good Growth and Arts Council funding.
